Codes and Convention

Codes and conventions: In the short story what’s a Bum Mom, Kathleen Rockwell uses several convincing techniques to carry out the guiding question on civility. One accurate is metaphors, in the short story the author Kathleen Rockwell describes the scene in the story were they see a homeless women out the bus window. â€Å"She stopped at a wastebasket and retrieved a large discarded sketch book. She flipped through it until she found a blank page. Standing on the corner of sixth and 14th, she reached into one of her bags and found a marker. She made on a deft stroke, and then another, on the page another artist left her. My bus moved on. This can be carried out as a metaphor for society and how we view moreover treat homelessness people. Nevertheless we don’t acknowledge it, as a result of ignorance. We are use to pressing on as well as assume we never saw them or they didn’t exist. Hence moving on with our uncivil behavior. Kathleen Rockwell sees a person that h as something with I them. A talented women however she is homeless so society will ignore her and continue on with there daily lives.Another technique is she uses first person to relate with the short story. She asks questions moreover show that their scared, a feeling that many people have. They had to do it, anyone would have done it, but did they cry while they were doing it? † The photo essay state street family by Glenn H. Austin analyze the argument of homelessness and how society looks down on, preferentially ignores the reality of living on the streets. These pictures show how everyone has approximately the same feelings; therefore society doesn’t show the same character to the homeless. The couple in the photo their attitude shows carelessness as is seen no eye-contact with each other, and perhaps the desire to avoid any connection to homelessness. Another example is the first picture a homeless man holds a sign reading, â€Å"Talk to me†, how the homeles s, like anybody else, need some interaction, outside of their, â€Å"State Street Family. † The title is a technique putting all the images together showing the fact those living on the street are connected together as a family. 1st paragraph The short story what’s a bum mom by Kathleen Rockwell and the photo essay State Street Family by Glenn H.Austin answer the guiding question, who is responsible for civility? The text I have chosen to better answer the guiding question is what a bum mom. In this short story it shows you a better understanding of the vertices, moreover what can happen. The short story what’s a bum mom Deals with the terms of ignorance in society towards the homelessness and civility. Later we ask ourselves the question do we really know how to be civil to more than just our family, friends and people who are not homeless. We are fortunate and don’t know how to act when we are put into a situation like this. At the begging of the short s tory the homeless women ask for a quarter, nevertheless the women mad up an excuse like (†¦. Put one in about ballet and getting her hopes up). It showed she was nervous and didn’t know how to act in this given situation. She gave the homeless women excuses making her feel like she’s not worth paying any attention to. The author is trying to show according to society, she is below everyone else. Society is also enduring incivility towards younger human.Like Isabelle she is 5 years old and she has already taken into a count how to label society especially homeless people, drug addicts, bum, alcoholics, ECT. The author is saying we don’t only see the vertices we do our best to ignore them. This story is trying to show us that the incivility of ignoring homelessness is recurring again and again. Its not going to stop we arguing to keep on pretending their not their and move on with our lives. The only time they catch everyone’s attention is when violenc e occurs. The author says (the arm scene). The purpose of the photo essay is to show the fact that everyone wants someone to talk to, socially interact with, Moreover deserve the same civility as others that can be shown with social interaction. Like with the first text a homeless man wrote talk to me. The photo essay brings up the question on who’s responsible for civility. The author is showing the emotions within them, also showing how we just ignore it and move on. We don’t think of them as homeless or even consider them as, we call the bums. We ignore them and that’s not an excuse for incivility 2nd -Last paragraphAdmitting both texts deal with the guiding question the short story gave a better understanding of the guiding question. The author made it easy to describe and point moreover her struggle with her own responsibility with civility in terms of the homeless. Therefore it’s easier for us to connect to as present day society does the same thing as the picture essay and the short story. The movie bum fights this movie is about fighting and attempting amateur stunts in exchange for money, alcohol, and other incentives. In this movie men are hurting each other and people for money.Like in the, short story what’s a bum mom. When the woman was attacked by a man saying he mugged her 5 bucks (add the scene). Its also similar to the drawing homeless people be harassed by police officers moreover families on the street. Like in the photo essay it shows families struggling on the street or when the police officers harassed a homeless man for sleeping in the park. It all comes down to society thinks their superior than homeless people, like they don’t matter and they shouldn’t. The only thing the matters in society and to the government is the amount of money you have. Last paragraphThe author Kathleen Rockwell, the short story what’s a bum mom shows a better understanding on the guiding question. Who is r esponsible for civility? By giving us a text we can easily find a connection to moreover answer and think about the question she asked in the text. Aside from reading this story we start questioning our own civility therefore start asking are we civil to only the ones we love and know won’t hurt us. Or just the one we think we could trust. Although the photo essay comes to a conclusion on who’s responsible for civility, it catches our attention to the problem of civility but not as well as the short story did.

Creative Writing “Into the Darkness” Essay

It had just turned night when Victoria heard the thunder roll in, and the lightening strike against the ground. This worried her for she was afraid of losing power. As the night grew on the storm worsened. Making sure she wasn’t forgetting her laptop, Victoria made her way upstairs to the comforts of her bedroom. She decided this would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of her time and watch the latest shows Netflix had to offer. Settling into her bed with her laptop in hand Victoria reached over to plug her charger in. Just as she did so, the power went out. Startled by the sudden darkness, she reached under her bed for her flashlight. Grasping her flashlight tightly, Victoria headed back downstairs to see what may have caused the power to go out. As Victoria went downstairs she noticed her porch door was ajar. Cautiously she approached the door and peered outside to see who or what may have opened the door. Nothing seemed to be around. Certain that the storm had simply blown out the power, Victoria poured herself a glass of hot chocolate and returned upstairs. Something seemed different to Victoria, but she was unsure of what exactly. Much to her dismay her beloved laptop was missing. Appalled by this discovery, Victoria quickly became worried that someone may be in the house with her. Using her survival instincts she quickly grabbed the flashlight and headed out into the hallway, if someone was in the house with her laptop, Victoria was determined to catch them and get her laptop back. Shaky and nervous she slowly peered out into the hallway, no one was to be found. Once at the stairs she swiftly tumbled down them, only missing a few steps at the bottom, but redeeming herself with style. The power had yet to return, and the only thing Victoria had with her was a flashlight. Determined she would catch the culprit and get her laptop back, she sprang across the room and swung the bathroom door open. Still she found no one. Next she opened the closet, then her office, and finally the last room she had left to check was the basement. Victoria clenched onto the flashlight and slowly turned the nob and entered the dark stairwell leading to the basement. Taking each step one at a time, until she got to the final one. When she glanced around the corner Victoria could see someone standing there. She couldn’t make out the face for it was too dark, and her flashlight was dimming by the second. Victoria slowly inched towards the dark figure, getting closer and closer, until finally she was close enough. Just as she reached out to grab onto the dark figure, she dropped the flashlight. All hopes of seeing who they were went away as soon as Victoria’s flashlight hit the floor. The dark figure quickly turned around tightly grasping the laptop. Victoria got struck in the face by her own laptop, and was knocked onto the ground. When she awoke the power had returned, and the storm had stopped. As Victoria got up off the floors she quickly glanced to around to see if anyone was around. There was nobody to be found, and her laptop was gone.

Legal Aspects Associated With Performance Management Programs - Part Assignment

Legal Aspects Associated With Performance Management Programs - Part II - Assignment Example Meanwhile, quote (year) noted that any legal outcomes that proceed from the inefficiencies of one person in the implementation of performance management systems could bring the reputation of the entire organization to disrepute. I must admit that I agree with you on all three types of claims that can be brought up on employers regarding performance management system as you mentioned. Certainly, defamation can arise as there is personal sabotage against certain employees to run their professional reputation down. Discrimination could also be the result of bias and preference of selected employees over others. Then also, negligence can occur as there is apathy towards the entire performance management system. But one thing that I am particularly impressed about on your post is the admission that any of these forms of claims or breaches can come with serious cost for all parties. As indicated by quote (year) long periods of litigation and investigations aimed at setting scores between employees and employers can cost the organization precious man hours. It is therefore important that the right things will always be done to avoid any legal

Briefing paper - Essay Example The level of misunderstanding does increase terribly such meeting occurs between people of different countries. Variations in the methods applied to communication also show the difference in culture that is available in the country. These variations, therefore, tend to cause challenges for international companies like Secure IT Mobile towards their globalization system. As a business company in Italy, the Secure IT is faced with a lot of difficulties concerning corruption practices by its employees and the clients themselves. However, in some cultures within the country do accept bribes but it is still detrimental the development of such companies within the market structure. Some forms of bribery that may include money, gifts, some favors, and even entertainment to those targeted by such bribes. Any bribe is quite illegal in Italy and also is unethical business practice in a healthy business operation environment. Some countries, however, bribes are allowed to such an extent no any business can operate in such countries without offering bribes. Bribery, therefore, should be discouraged at all costs since inhibits total income collection from most investment companies, with reference to Secure IT mobile too in Italy(Soerens & Hwang 2009). Businesses such as the Secure IT mobile in Italy may find themselves paying bribes. They can find themselves spending because of the following conditions; competition from other firms, pressure from top management and legalization of the practice itself by the country. Lastly, they may also do them because of high taxation levies, government regulations, and reduced payment to government officials and bureaucratic business delays(Rotschild & Wingfield 2008). The language used for communication in Italy is the Italia no. However, English is the most recognized business language all over the world. It has, therefore, proved to be very difficult for Secure

Preparation of accounts and Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Preparation of accounts and - Essay Example Moreover, the division has attracted a type of consumers that seem to be a niche market, thus creating stable demand for the products Cost of sales has been assumed to follow a pattern from its previous performance. For the home decorating division, cost of sales was pegged at 70 percent, for the household goods at 60 percent, and for the DIY goods at 40 percent. Cost of operations for 2010 also followed the historical pattern based on 2009 and 2008 statements, and assumed the same percentage against gross sales of previous years. Given these assumptions, the gross operating income and the income before tax was derived and computed for the year 2010. Since it was assumed that there was no revaluation occurring in 2010, the net income after tax for Metropole was projected to be at  £193,000. This income, compared to that of 2009 and 2008, is quite better than expected, given the bleak global economic outlook. Since there is an expected economic slowdown, the forecast decreased in sales will leave a bigger inventory of merchandise. Thus compared to 2009, the inventory for 2010 will be higher by about 10 percent. Trade receivables, on the other hand, will suffer a bit since receivables may not be collected on time. As a matter of fact, to push sales and in an effort to curtail inventory from piling up, sales on account are projected to rise giving more trade receivables to account for 2010. Thus, trade receivables account for 2010 ended with 80 percent higher than the previous year 2009. What will save the day for Metropole during the economic downturn in 2010 will be the highly profitable and stable DIY stores. This division is expected to deliver the cash for the company. Thus, it is also forecast that an increase in cash account is expected, and some of them will be treated as short term savings deposit. Given the volatile nature of the economy, investments are forecast to be put on hold, as the company observes the direction

Reflection Paper Number two Advantages of Evaluation Essay

Reflection Paper Number two Advantages of Evaluation - Essay Example I will be explaining each area of discussion by providing examples and facts to present it in the most effective way. Evaluation is a key to success as it helps in meeting a person's needs from day to day activity or program in the Recreation and Leisure Service. It is very important in other sectors too. Evaluation is important for our program as recreation and leisure are indispensable part of our lives. Man cannot keep on working without taking any break. I feel that the professionals of recreation and leisure industry should focus on evaluation of the services provided by them to the clients in order to be successful in their professions. According to the bulletin of Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, College of Health and Human Services, "Every year, millions of people spend an increasing amount of time in pursuit of beneficial leisure and recreation experiences As the world's leading industry, recreation and leisure spending accounts for approximately one trillion dollars a year." (para.9) Hence this is the most profitable time for the recreation and leisure industry. There are immense opportunities of growth in this sector. But this growth is achievable only if the professionals and services involved in these activities perform well. It is not enough to chalk out pl ans and strategies of performance and distribute it to different levels of workers. It is also necessary to check whether the planned objectives and strategies are heading towards the right direction. The only way to do this is through evaluation. Through this method the shortcomings can be identified and rectified to achieve optimum growth and success. For e.g. nowadays there is a great boom in the hospitality sector. People have started using the services of hotels a lot. But if the hotel does not provide proper services to the customers, the customers will stop staying in that hotel and turn to its competitors. In order to check whether the customers are being served properly or not the hotel manager should keep on evaluating the hotel staffs' performance from time to time. He should check whether they behave courteously or not, whether their service is prompt or not, whether the cleaning of rooms and toilets are up to the mark or not. In addition to all this the hotel kitchen an d the quality of food should be evaluated constantly. It should be checked whether the purchase department of the hotel is purchasing good quality groceries, vegetables and other foodstuff or not. The quality of drinking water should also be of utmost priority in the evaluation agenda. In other words even the minutest details should be evaluated to ensure proper functioning of the hotel. If not done so it is impossible to get back the goodwill of a dissatisfied customer, especially when so many options are available to him. Nowadays all the people involved in the recreation and leisure program keep evaluating their performances from time to time because it is the topmost need of the competitive times we are living in. So

Project Proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Project Proposal - Essay Example To help strengthen the players in the banking sector in Nigeria and to ensure longevity and shareholders’ returns in the long run, the consolidation of banks was enforced by the Central Bank of Nigeria. The banks would either have to raise their capital base to N25 billion or face liquidation and quit the industry (Upaka, Akpata & Olasope, 2005). The purpose of the reforms was to reduce poverty and generate employment while leading to wealth creation. This was expected to lead to GDP growth over a period of time. Many of the small banks were plagued with low capital base and weak corporate governance. Consolidation of the banking system was to ensure a diversified, strong and reliable banking sector, ensure safety of depositor’s money, play active developmental roles in the country’s economy and make Nigerian banks competent and competitive players in the global financial system (Poyi, 2006). This would lead to diversification and emergence of specialized banks. The lending rates of the banks were very high and lending was concentrated in the short term due to lack of long term savings. The impact of the consolidation of the banks was felt in different sectors but there is not much literature available on the after-effects. The aim of this research is: Theory suggests that consolidation of banks could potentially increase the bank size which could in turn increase the bank returns through revenue and cost efficiency gains (Ajayi, 2005). It could also reduce industry risks through elimination of weak banks. This helps to eliminate the weak banks. The top ten banks account for nearly and account for more than 50% of the total assets. The small banking sector suffers from concentration of risks. They can provide fewer services and the costs for providing such services are high. Because of lack of effective competition, they are unable to exploit economies of scale. Consolidation became essential because there was over

Essay for maternal health Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

For maternal health - Essay Example She is 12 weeks pregnant. Time has come for Ruth to attend an antenatal check up. She needs to decide on whether she needs care by midwife or care by obstetrician. Midwives usually deliver at home and obstetricians deliver in the hospital. Though hospital settings have more infrastructure and expertise to take care of complications occurring during and after delivery, since most of the deliveries are uncomplicated, home delivery is sufficient for uncomplicated pregnancies under the supervision of midwives or any other trained health personnel like general practitioner. Review of literature indicates that most of the studies on the safety of delivery by midwife are on low-risk and uncomplicated pregnancies. Low-risk pregnancy means pregnancy which is less likely to have medical complications. This is determined by the fact that there are no obvious medical problems during pregnancy, the woman has started her prenatal care before19 weeks of gestation, has had 4 visits of antenatal care through the 28th week, e very 2 weeks for the next 8 weeks and then weekly for the last 4 weeks (Macfarlane, McCandlish, & Campbell, 2000). It is obvious that high-risk pregnancies need to be delivered in the hospitals under expertise supervision and monitoring. According to Davies, Hey, Reid and Young et al (1996), general practitioners are apprehensive about inability to handle complications arising during homebirth. Also, some studies like Bastian, Keirse & Lancaster (1998) have revealed that home births carry high death rate due to "underestimation of the risks associated with post-term birth, twin pregnancy and breech presentation, and a lack of response to fetal distress" (Bastian, Keirse & Lancaster, 1998). Certain emergencies like cord prolapse, inverted uterus, or bleeding of the mother and breathing problems with the infant, may need immediate intervention which can be instituted only when the patient is in the hospital. Since Ruths is a

Streptococcus pneumoniae Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Streptococcus pneumoniae - Essay Example They are readily stained with aniline dyes and are Gram positive. The capsule may be demonstrated as a clear halo. They have complex growth requirements and grow only in enriched media. They are aerobes and facultative anaerobes, the optimum temperature being 37Â ºC. On blood agar after incubation for 18 hours, the colonies are small, dome shaped and glistening with an area of green discoloration along them. Some strains that develop abundant capsular material (types 3 and 7) form large mucoid colonies. Under anaerobic conditions, colonies on blood agar are surrounded by a zone of beta hemolysis due to oxygen labile hemolysin O. In liquid media, such as glucose broth, growth occurs as uniform turbidity. Streptoccocus pneumoniae ferment several sugars, forming acid only. Fermentation is tested in Hiss’s serum water or aerum agar slopes. They are bile soluble. Bile solubility is a constant property and hence is of diagnostic importance. Pneumococci are catalase and oxidase nega tive. They are delicate organisms and are readily destroyed by heat and antiseptics. The most important anitigen of pneumococcus is the type specific capsular polysaccharide. Pneumococci isolated from lobar pneumonia were originally classified into 3 types, I, II, and III and a heterogenous group IV. Memebers of Group IV were later classified into types, and 90 different serotypes are recognized. Typing may be carried out by i) agglutination of the cocci with a type specific antiserum; ii) precipitation of the SSS with the specific antiserum; or iii) the capsule swelling reaction described by Neufeld (1902). An abnormal protein (beta globulin) that precipitates with the somatic ‘C’ antigen of the pneumonia, appears in the acute phase sera of cases of pneumonia but disappears during convalescence. On repeated subculture, pneumococci undergo a smooth-to-rough (S-R) variation. The virulence of pneumococci depends on its capsule and the production of called

Pacific oil company Essay Example for Free

Pacific oil company Essay The Pacific Oil Company went into negotiations with Reliant Manufacturing, and its goal was to sign a more long-term agreement. Pacific assumed that the new contract would be signed with no major hurdles or objectives, and that the dominant point of negotiation would be price. Jean Fontaine, who is the marketing vice president for Pacific Oil, went into a negotiation process with Reliant. Jean started the process several years before Reliant Manufacturing’s contract was up, hoping to beat her competition to the lower price offers and leave with a contract extension of 5 years. Unfortunately, Jean did not properly research her client’s needs or adequately project what the outcome might be. Because of this, Pacific Oil Company was not prepared to address the concerns and requests that Reliant brought up during the negotiation. Though both parties wanted to move quickly toward signing a contract, Pacific Oil Company elongated this process because it did not have a thorough negotiation strategy that included a contingency plan or best alternatives. Pacific oil also neglected to draw out its best alternatives or bottom line in advance. Staying on the Same Page in Business Negotiations Pacific believed that other elements of the contract might be discussed, but that no dramatic changes would be expected. Because of Pacific’s lack of strategic planning, they wasted valuable time, money, emotional stress and energy. They also risked losing other opportunities that could have been more favorable for them. Adding to the problem was Pacific’s assumption that Reliant would sign a new contract quickly. Because of the time and money spent on traveling and negotiating back and forth, and the potential need for new technology development, which would be based on the contract’s outcome, Pacific Oil Company became increasingly desperate to finalize a contract with Reliant. As a result, Reliant obtained the advantage needed to make more demands during negotiations. Additionally, Reliant was aware of Pacific Oil’s dependence on its business, and took full advantage of these opportunities.

The marketing mix is the most popular marketing term, it is also the general phrase used to explain the different kinds of choices that organizations have to make in the process of bringing a product and service to market. This chapter will discuss the definition of marketing mix and its elements. In the early 1950, Neil Borden defined the marketing mix as an integrated set of marketing strategies to realise organizational objectives and create higher value relationship with customers. In the late 1950, Jerome McCarthy, a prominent marketer, concluded the variables of marketing mix into four elements which is product, price, promotion, and place. According to the Marketing Principles and Perspective by William O. Bearden, the most common definition of marketing mix is the overall marketing offer to appeal to the target market. It consists of decisions in four basic areas which is product, pricing, integrated marketing communication and distribution. Nowadays, there is a new definition of the marketing mix and Neil H. Borden in 1965 increase the marketing mix to seven areas, which contain people, physical evidence and process. The most interesting thing is some people think that four Ps are out-dated and suggest a customer-oriented model which is four Cs, including customer needs, convenience, cost to user and communication. 4.0 Marketing Mix Variables 4.1 Product Rendering to the Marketing Edition 6, product was defined as anything that can be offered to a market for attention, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need. Product can be divided into two categories, which are tangible or intangible. Tangible product is physical object that customers can actually touch, such as a motor. An intangible product is a service based product that cannot be touched, such as car repair. Presently, Perodua has launched various products that can satisfy everyone from different social classes. For examples, Perodua has released Perodua ViVa 660cc for those people that require low performance and economical, Perodua Myvi 1000cc for middle-class people and Perodua Alza 1500cc that suitable for high-performance user and families. Besides that, Perodua also provides different colours in same model. For examples, Perodua Myvi is available in Ebony Black and Classic Gold for classic lovers, Olive Green and Mocha Silver for natural lovers, Glittering Silver and Oozy Orange for those who wants extraordinary and unique colour. 4.2 Price Price is the amount money charged for products or services that customers exchange for the benefit of having or using the product or service. Perodua has implanted different price to various models of cars. For instances, Perodua ViVa 660cc only costs about twenty five thousands, moreover, Perodua Myvi costs about forty thousands and Perodua Alza costs about fifty five thousands. Perodua also provide several types of payment method to benefit everyone. For examples, Perodua accepts credit card payment for the deposit, cheque and bank transfer also acceptable to replace cash as a safe method. Perodua also provide car loan with 3.5% to 4% interest from 5 to 9 years, you only need to pay hundreds ringgits as the instalment. 4.3 Place Place represents the location when the product and service can be purchased. A more detail definition about place is making goods and services available in the right quantities and locations when customers want them. When different target markets have different needs, a number of place variations may be changed. Thus, there are two categories which are urban areas and suburban areas. Perodua targets most of its sales, service and showrooms on the urban areas because of high population. For instances, Perodua manufacturing and engine manufacturing Sdn Bhd is situated on rawang, meanwhile Perodua Sales and Service Centres are mainly located on Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and other. Besides that, Perodua also locates minor sales and services centres on the north and south Malaysia, such as Johor Bahru, Butterworth, Perai and Alor Setar. [1] 4.4 Promotion Promotion is a communication process that builds and maintains favourable relationships by persuading publics to accept its products and services. Publics can be individuals and organizations that have interest in the business. Thus, there are various types of promotion, such as personal selling, sales promotion, advertising and public relations. Perodua Sales and Services Centres provide well trained sales staffs and promoters to sell their vehicles and provide information to the individuals. To achieve their sales target, Perodua also is having sales promotion, such as discount up to RM 2000, free gift as sterling lock and touch and go card. Perodua also offer 1-hour super services and extended warranty programme to benefit the customers. Besides that, Perodua often advertises their products in different types of media such as television, internet, and billboard. Perodua advertises a lot in TV commercial especially during public holiday such as National Day, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, and Hari Raya Puasa. Moreover, Perodua also cooperates with bank as the finance and insurance partners to promote their products. 5.0 Further Recommendation Nowadays, global warming issue is becoming more and more serious. In my opinion, Perodua can improve their products under this critical issue. Perodua can implant the latest automobile technology to produce safer, energy efficient, and less polluting cars. For examples, to correspond the rising petrol prices, Perodua can research and develop energy saver, battery electric and hybrid vehicles. Besides that, Perodua also can replace the steel casing of the car to aluminium or carbon fibre, this method will increase the lightness and strength. In addition, Perodua can stimulate the sales by having contest, rebates, premiums, and low interest. For examples, Perodua can offer rebate to those who trade in their old car. Perodua also can work with the bank to lower the interest of loan so that low income people can purchase the car. 6.0 Conclusion In conclusion, the marketing mix that includes product, price, place and promotion, is very importance in any company or organization to achieve their targets and objectives. The most obvious evidence is when the end of year, companies comes up with their tremendous net profits. Thus, marketing is the integral part of the economy. The first importance of marketing mix is that customers can get the opportunity to know about various products that are available in the market. The marketing mix also helps us to introduce the uniqueness of your company and product. Marketing mix also create a healthy competition among companies and increase their level and quality. Meanwhile, consumers are able to enjoy the better product and service with a low price. In other words, marketing mix generates many companies, either directly and indirectly, such as advertising, broadcasting, newspapers, and other companies. Finally, the most importance value of marketing mix is to build a balanced market, avoid dominant companies to control the prices and establish monopoly over the product and service.

Life Of Rodin :: essays research papers fc

Auguste Rodin was born November 12, 1840 in Paris and attended the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris at age 14. Rodin had a special gift for modeling human figures and faces; therefore sculpting humans is all he did. Decorators and commercial sculptors exploited Rodin at a very young age. It was some 20 years before he could sculpt for himself, under the commercial sculptor Albert Carrier-Belleuse. (Auguste, 19) Rodin sculpted ornamental figures for several major buildings in Brussels, such as the Bourse and the Palais des Academies. He then worked on the monument to Jean-Francois Loos, the former mayor of Antwerp. Rodin did not start this monument, but he work on it. Rodin acquired a sufficient amount of money to travel to Italy, which was an important step in his career. In 1877 he returned to Paris with his first major sculpture, The Age of Bronze. This piece of work showed a young man coming out of misery and depression to a state of heightened awareness. Critics and fellow artists thought and also accused Rodin of making this piece from a plaster cast taken directly from a living person. This deeply hurt Rodin. (Auguste, 19) In 1880, Rodin was contracted by the French government to make a door for the projected Musee des Arts Decortifs. Rodin worked endlessly on the sketches for the bronze door, now titled The Gates of Hell. In 1883 Rodin met Camille, this is when he had reached his â€Å"decisive stage† in preparations for The Gates of Hell. This aspect of Rodin’s work and ideas has to be borne in mind considering the beginning of his relationship with Camille Claude. (Auguste, 21-22) Camille and Rodin had, at first, an intimate attraction for each other. Rodin met Camille when he was an instructor correcting the work of a group of young ladies. This man was the master who could finally teach Camille a proper set of artistic bearings. Rodin could knead the clay â€Å"at lightning speeds† and instantly create the most complex and expressive form. (Auguste, 22) In 1884, Rodin made his first portrait of Camille, an â€Å"austerely beautiful head with large eyes, short hair and sharply defined features†. And by 1886, Rodin was so obsessed with Camille that he followed her to England where she was staying with her friend Jessie Lipcomb and her family in Peterborough. (Auguste, 24) In the fall of 1884, he was commissioned to design the monument to The Burghers of Calais, which was to become one of his major works. Short summary After her beloved governess, Miss Taylor, leaves Hartfield to become Mrs. Weston, Emma Woodhouse finds herself in need of a friend. The answer is Harriet Smith, a girl of questionable origins whom Emma decides to improve. Emma sets Harriet up with Mr. Elton and she is very surprised when Mr. Elton reveals that he loves her, not Harriet. Emma, offended at the idea, refuses him. The Ethics of Conjoined Twin Separation Essay -- Moral Science Biology

The Ethics of Conjoined Twin Separation Conjoined twins are a rare phenomenon. In the even that a set should appear where one twin is dependant upon the other, I believe that they should be separated, at minimum, to save the life of one. At the same time, I believe that every set of conjoined twins is its own special case. In this study, I will present the background information on conjoined twinning, give a few case studies, and give the pros and cons of conjoined twin separation. I will end with my own views on the subject. How do these mutations arise? A.A. Zimmerman hypothesizes that, â€Å"[Conjoined twins arise from] an error in blastogenesis due to incomplete fission of a single zygote, resulting in the development of two centers of axial growth instead of one† (Juretschke, 9). Within the first two weeks of embryo development, there is an error in the embryonic development of the blastocyst, composed of about 100 cells. The single, fertilized egg fails to separate properly, as it would to form identical twins (a fertilized egg divides completely during the initial stages of cell differentiation). This failure of division results in two identical, same sex twins, conjoined in some manner. No one is clear on why the cell fails to divide completely. Statistically, the chances of failed egg division resulting in conjoined twins is about one in 250,000, as compared to the one in 200 chance of giving birth to identical twins. Of those conjoined, 40-60% are stillborn, and 35% of those twins that survive birth die within the first 24 hours. Of those one in 250,000 births, there is a 5-25% chance of existing in the world for more than a day. Interestingly, about 70% of those who beat the odds were female, and t... .... 62, pp. 525 – 529. Evaluation of a computerised system Essay

Meeting the requirements specification In the evaluation of this project, the first things that must be considered are the first objectives that were set for the system to meet. This is the requirements specification. I will break down each objective listed in the requirements specification and discuss whether the objectives have been met.   To complete the new system by the deadline agreed This requirement was met. The date that was arranged was the 21st March 2008 and the date that was used on the calendar of dates was also this date.   The database will need to be able to store enough records. The hardware that was acquired for the new system to be stored on in the end was a 120 GB hard disk, and then was well enough to store the whole database of records on.   The system will need to alert the user when stock is low or has run out The query ‘Out of stock’ along with its report counterpart is enough of an alert to let the user know that staff has run out. However, there is no way of checking when stock is low, and the ideal alert for items that have gone out of stock would be automatic rather than the user having to run the report or query. Data must be backed up to minimise loss of data and to reduce the amount of work if data does get lost A sufficient back-up plan has been constructed which included at least two ways of backing up records at regular intervals.   To find information about an item quickly The ‘Find product’ query is a good way of finding information about an item quickly. It allows the user to search for an item using its name or in a separate query a product ID can be used. Alternatively, items can be browsed through using the Products form.   Generate a unique ID for each customer entered into the database. A unique ID for each customer that is entered into the database is generated.   Generate a record for customer details entered into the database The Customers form is used to enter customer details into the database, and its ‘Add new record’ button is a way of generating a new record for the data that has been input.   Produce an error if the customer already exists in the database This objective has not been met directly, however there are measures that can be taken to see if a customer already exists in the database. An error is not produced automatically, but a query has been created to check the database for the customer. Show the new customer table when a new customer has been added When a new customer is added the new customer table is not shown, however this is not necessary as the user isn’t able to view the tables, but the data is immediately accessible by the user via the Customers form.   Show the new customer table when a customer has been deleted The same applies for deleting a customer as applies to adding a new customer. The data is not shown as a table but is immediately accessible via the Customers form.   Generate a unique ID for each product added into the database. A unique ID for each product that is entered into the database is automatically generated.   Generate a record for product details entered into the database When details of an item are entered into a Products form and the ‘Add new record’ button is clicked, then a new record is generated for that data that has been input.   Show the new product table when a product has been added The same applies to this as applies to customers.   Show the new product table when a product has been deleted The same applies as above.   Generate a unique ID for each staff member added to the database. A unique ID is generated for each staff member that is entered into the database is automatically generated. Generate a record for each staff member added into the database When the details of a new member of staff are entered into a Staff form and the ‘Add new record’ button is clicked, then a new record is generated for that data that has been input. Show the new staff table when a new staff member is added into the database The same applies to this as applies to customers.   Show the new staff table when a staff member is deleted from the database. The same applies as above. Generate a unique ID for each sale that takes place A unique ID is generated for each sale that takes place is automatically generated. Generate a record for each sale that takes place When the details of a sale are entered into the Sales form and the ‘Add new record’ button is clicked, then a new record is generated for that data that has been input. Show the new sales table when a sale has been added into the database The same applies to this as applies to customers.   Update the stock levels for the item purchased after a sale. The same applies as above.   Produce an error message if the customer doesn’t exist When a sale is conducted, if a customer ID doesn’t exist in the Customers table but is entered into the Sales table then an error message is produced.   Produce an error message if the item isn’t in stock An error message is not directly produced if an item is in stock, but when a staff member uses a query to locate an item to reduce the stock by 1, they should notice that the stock level for that item is already 0. Correctly archive data from the sales table. Data can be archived from the sales table using two queries that have been created: an append query and a delete query. Data older than 28 days in the Sales table is appended to the Archived Sales table using the first query, then data older than 28 days in the Sales table is deleted using the second. Summary table of requirements specification Here is a table to summarise whether or not the original requirements specification has been met or not: Objective no. Target met Target partly met Target not met Reason for not meeting target Page reference 1 X 2 X 3 X Report created to tell user all items out of stock. 4 X 5 X 6 X 7 X 8 X Query created to check existance of customer 9 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 10 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 11 X 12 X 13 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 14 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 15 X 16 X 17 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 18 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 19 X 20 X 21 X Tables not accessible by end-user, but data viewable in form 22 X 23 X 24 X. Report created to show all items out of stock, and when updating stock levels staff should know it is out of stock. 25 X Signed: _____________________________________ User response In the Implementation section of this project I issued the staff at the shop with a copy of the new system and a questionnaire to fill in about using it. Here are the results of the questionnaire that I obtained. The main menu is easy to follow. True / False 10 0 Comments towards this statement indicated that the main menu was very easy to follow and needs no improvement. It is easy to navigate around the whole system. True / False 10 0 Comments on this question also indicated that it needed no improvement. There was indication that each area of the whole system is accessible via the main menu. The layout is consistent. True / False 10 0 There were no comments about this statement. The text throughout the system is easy to read. True / False 10 0 Comments stated that font was large enough to read, and that the contrast in colour with the background was significant. The colour scheme is appropriate. True / False 10 0 Comments say that the colour scheme is consistent, simple and attractive to the eye. The system is secure enough. True / False 2 8 Comments towards this statement indicated that when the system is run, the whole system is accessible and therefore a password should be required in order to gain access to the system. Your user-guide is easy to follow and read. True / False 10 0 Comments mainly say that the user guide is straightforward and easy to follow. It explains how to use the system sufficiently. Command buttons are all in a suitable place. True / False 10 0 Comments explain that command buttons are in a logical order and are well laid out. All of the drop-down lists work. True / False 10 0 There were no comments about this statement. All of the correct information is stored. True / False 10 0 Comments mainly say that data is entered into forms and is successfully stored in tables. Reports are sufficient and have a good layout. True / False 10 0 Comments say that the layout of the reports is consistent and the reports show sufficient information. All dates stored within the system work correctly. True / False 10 0 Comments mention that the date is automatically entered into the sales table, and all other dates within the system correctly work. The validation rules work. True / False 10 0 Comments say that validation minimises errors when typing and makes the user aware that they have made a spelling mistake. The validation rules are helpful. True / False 10 0 Comments say that spelling mistakes and typing errors are minimised due to the validation rules that are in place. Almost all of the questions received fully satisfied answers. The only exception was that the database was secure enough. This received a slightly negative response along with suggestions that the database should have a password. This was originally included in the design of the project but was left our during the system development stage. The problem was, however, rectified and the system was accepted. Good points, bad points and possible extensions From my evaluation so far and the user’s questionnaire, I am able to create a list of good points and bad points of the system: Good points   The switchboard allows easy access around the whole of the system   A professional-looking colour scheme has been created to give the system a sense of consistency. On-screen text is clear and easy to read due to a simple font and high contrast to the colour of the background   No faults were detected in the user guide and everyone seems to be able to use the new system   Error messages are clear so that they can be corrected when they occur Validation on fields improves reliability of data that is entered into the database and validation rules are found to be useful   Some areas of the database have automatic data entry, such as ID fields and some date fields, reducing the amount of work for the end-user   It is quick and easy to enter data due to the forms that have been created. Drop-down lists are available on some fields to make it easier for the end-user to enter data Bad points Backing up can be quite slow and time consuming due to data transfer on to the particular USB drive that was purchased having a slow transfer speed. Burning data on to discs, and also removing data from discs, is slow   Having to run two queries to archive data is tedious, as it would be much easier to only have to run one command in order to do it   Archiving data is easy to forget and it would be useful to have a reminder every 28 days Limitations. The system still has some limitations, despite the fact that it has been improved greatly, with improved efficiency and much less chance of errors being made. Here is a list of limitations that the system has, and also some of the system requirements that were not completely fulfilled. There is no automatic alert to tell the user that stock levels are low and that more need to be ordered in   Paper has not been completely eliminated from the system. Reports are used to create lists of data to store in an archive, or to give information to the stock control manager when ordering new stock without having to load up the system The system is not able to produce reminders every time data needs archiving   There is no error message generated when a user is entered into the database again Possible extensions There are still extensions that could possibly be made to the system, and time and funds permitting, these are still possible to implement at some stage. Here are some of the extensions that could be made:   When carrying out a sale, it would be a good idea if the stock levels could automatically be updated to reduce the stock levels by one. An alternative to this would be to allow the user to reduce the level of stock via the sales form, rather than having to locate the correct record using the products form   It would be a good idea for the database to produce a reminder every 28 days to remind the user to archive old sales. This would reduce clutter in the database and decrease the amount of time it would take to look at data in the sales table   To allow the stock control manager to create a list of stock that needs to be ordered in automatically so that he could send this to the manufacturer. This would greatly reduce his workload.
